Kevin Durant on Russell Westbrook as league’s best point guard: “I don’t see the debate”

Russell Westbrook has scored over 20 points in every game since he returned from his hand injury on Nov. 28 against Portland, which was a 32-point, 7 rebound, and 8 assist performance.

Westbrook is averaging over 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists per game in his nine games played and after Oklahoma City beat Minnesota 111-92 on Friday. Westbrook had 34 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Kevin Durant’s full-form self is still working its way back from his injury, but Durant wasn’t shy about praising his point guard in terms of the league’s best right now.

Durant’s argument is thorough and compelling. Plenty of people out there might simply feel uncomfortable giving the best point guard title to Westbrook simply because they don’t feel it’s his true position. He may not always play like the point guard you’d expect, but then you can also say that he’s completely evolving the position.

He started the season on the kind of MVP trajectory that I expected, and now Russell Westbrook is making the same kind of noise that instantly puts him in the conversation as the best at his position in the league.
